Cat Singer Strolls To Edward Babst Memorial Win

Daniels’ Cat Singer closed strongly to overtake the frontrunners in the
$40,000 Edward Babst Memorial Handicap at Beulah Park on Saturday. Nine
Ohio-bred runners squared off as Catlaunch and Cayenne Red blazed through
the first quarter mile in a scorching 21 3/5. Stalking the speedy leaders,
Cat Singer slowly swung into contention and collared the leaders with less
than 100 yards to run. Pulling away to a 2 ½ length victory, Cat Singer
covered the six furlongs over the fast track in 1:09 4/5, the fastest time
of the Winter meet for the distance.
Ridden by Justin Vitek
for trainer David Carroll, Cat Singer paid $3.80, $3.00 and $2.60 as the
wagering favorite. Catch My Cat pressed the leaders to finish second and
returned $6.00 and $5.40. Catlaunch faded to third and had a payoff of
$5.40.

Beulah Feature At End Of Rainbow For Irishforgold

Irishforgold pushed her record to two-for-two all time at Beulah Park with
her victory in the featured race on Wednesday. Seven allowance runners
squared off as Catza and Bellarama dueled for early supremacy. Waiting
patiently behind the embattled leaders, Irishforgold darted through and
opening along the inside and sped away to a 5-3/4-length victory. The
running time for the six furlongs over the fast track was 1:12. The total
margin of victory for Irishforgold’s two victories over the Beulah oval is
an astonishing 16 ¼ lengths.
Ridden by Godofredo
Laurente for trainer Mike Trivigno, Irishforgold paid $6.60, $4.00 and
$3.80. Zealette stalked the frontrunners to finish second and returned $4.60
and $3.80. I Accept closed strongly for third and had a show payoff of
$3.20.
Live racing returns to
Beulah Park on Saturday with the Ohio seven and seven program. Saturday’s
feature is the running of the $40,000 Edward Babst Memorial for Ohio-bred
horses 3-year-old and upward at the distance of six furlongs. First post time is set for 1:15 p.m.

In the fifth race Wednesday at Beulah Park, brothers Marco
Ccamaque and
Cesar Camaque battle for first-second with older brother Marco winning
on Locker (4) in a photo finish. Second was Mint de Gear (2) who finished
against the rail. The fifth race was a 3-year-old and up Maiden Special
Weight contest at 5 1/2 furlongs.
Scout Me Enjoys The Extra Distance In Leg 5 Of Bluegrass Warrior
Distance Series

My Way Stable’s Scout Me
improve his record to 2-for-2 lifetime at the two mile distance by winning
the featured race at Beulah Park on Tuesday. Six claimers battled as
Merryhadalilwolf, showing his customary early speed, forged to the front
with London Lord tracking him through the first mile. Moving into the third
of four turns, Scout Me began to reel in the frontrunners and took the lead
with 4 furlongs left to run. Edging clear to a ¾ length victory, Scout Me
covered the distance over a fast track in 3:33 2/5.
The Bluegrass Warrior
Distance Series is a set of six races run during the Beulah Park
Winter/Spring meet for claiming horse ranging from $4,000 to $11,000. Each
race extends in distance from 1 1/8 miles to 2 ¼ miles. The sixth and final
leg will be contested on May 7, 2005 at the distance of 2 ¼ miles.
Ridden by Paul Melancon
for trainer Rinzy Nocero, Scout Me paid $7.00, $4.40 and $3.00.
Merryhadalilwolf dug in gamely for second and returned $5.60 and $3.40.
London Lord pressed the pace before fading to a distant third and returned
his backers $2.60.
