Elite Guard Shields Off The Field In Feature
November 6, 2004

Mary Ann Thomas Elite Guard shrugged off the challenge of favorite Fly Forever to win the featured race at Beulah Park on Saturday. A compact field of seven $5,000 claimers battled on as Elite Guard darted out to the front and never looked back. Elite Guard cleared off to a 3-length victory in a time of 1:12 for six furlongs on a fast track. The running time was the second fastest of the Beulah Park fall meet.

Ridden by Ivan Gonzalez for trainer Karen Thomas, Elite Guard paid $13.60, $4.80 and $2.80. Fly Forever held second and returned $3.20 and $2.40. Nick Berryman was a fast-finishing third and had a payoff of $2.20.

Live racing returns to Beulah Park on Sunday in the form of the Ohio seven and seven program. Tomorrow\u2019s feature is the running of the $40,000 Scarlet and Gray Handicap for Ohio bred fillies and mares at six furlongs. First post on Sunday is 12:25 p.m.

Seeking the Honey Sweetens The Pot

Sandra Lee Smith, Mike Bailey and Gary Dillio Seeking the Honey sprinted away comfortably to win the featured race at Beulah Park on Friday. Ten 2-year-old Ohio-bred maiden fillies clashed as Harmony River took charge of the contest through the opening furlongs. Seeking the Honey forged her way to the lead in the final 100 yards to pull out a 1-length victory. The running time for the six furlongs was 1:13 4/5 over a track rated good.

Ridden by Joddie Fortner for trainer Larry Smith, Seeking the Honey returned $26.00, $9.60 and $5.20. Louis\u2019 Star battled on for second and paid $3.60 and $2.60. Sliver Sabin finished a close third and paid his backers $4.00.

Deniro Awarded Staring Role In Feature
November 4, 2004

Owner-trainer Joe C Faulkner's Deniro's Delight scampered to victory in the featured race at Beulah Park on Thursday. While setting swift fractions on the front end, Deniro's Delight was able to save enough in the tank to hold off fast finishing War Special in the final 100-yards. Making it three in a row, Deniro's Delight won by 1 ¼ lengths in a running time of 1:47 1/5 for the one mile and seventy yards on the sloppy track.

Ridden by leading jockey Marco Ccamaque, Deniro Delight paid $11.80, $7.00 and $2.60. War Special finished second and returned $10.60 and $2.80. The heavy favorite Dancin For Gold finished a disappointing third and had a payoff of $2.10.

Affirmlode Carries The Weight In Feature
November 2, 2004

Owner-trainer H. Ray Horn’s Affirmlode surpassed Thistledown shipper Brents Mercer in the final furlong to win the featured race of the day at Beulah Park on Tuesday. A field of ten Ohio-bred allowance runners squared off in the six furlong contest as Here Comes Bragg set rapid early fractions. Favorite Affirmlode sat close to that pace and descended upon the pacesetter. Affirmlode then battled Brents Mercer to the wire to win by a head. The running time was 1:12 2/5 on the muddy track.

Ridden by Ivan Gonzalez, Affirmlode paid $5.00, $3.40 and $2.80. Brents Mercer fought gamely for second and returned $6.00 and $3.20. Southtown Slew uncorked a mild rally for third and paid his backer $3.20.

Imahoneytoo Topples Oh So Easy In Memorial
October 31, 2004

Ronald Zielinski’s Imahoneytoo galloped away to a 3-¼-length victory in the $40,000 Bobbie Bricker Memorial Handicap at Beulah Park on Sunday. A compact field of six Ohio bred fillies and mares allowed longshot Bubble Dourbon to take control for the first half of the 1 1/16 mile contest. Heavy favorite Oh So Easy began to make her move followed by Imahoneytoo. Imahoneytoo put Oh So Easy away at the top of the lane and pulled away powerfully. The running time was 1:47 1/5.

Jockey Huber Villa-Gomez said “ I wanted to stay close to the favorite “Oh So Easy” and at about the three eighths poll I made my move, She really loved this track”.

Now four for fourteen lifetime for trainer Richard Zielinski, Imahoneytoo paid $8.20, $6.20 and $6.40 as the second choice in the wagering. Joann’s Joy closed well for second and returned $8.80 and $8.20. Pacesetter Bubble Dourbon faded to third and had a payoff of $11.60. Heavy favorite Oh So Easy wilted to last.
